The Flaw With Social Media

The biggest flaw of social media is that people only show the good moments, never the bad. This teaches us as humans to always hide the bad moments of our lives, as if they are something we should be ashamed of. As if there is something wrong with us for having negative things take place in our lives. We see all these happy faces and happy posts and happy words, and think to ourselves "Why aren't I this happy? What's wrong with me?" We are fooled into believing that these happy faces are always happy, but that isn't true.

The truth is that life is beautiful, but it is also ugly. There is good and there is evil, there are smiles and there are tears. We need to feel more comfortable with this. We need to feel more comfortable talking about how we truly feely, instead of trying to force on this smiling mask at all times.
But for some reason, somewhere along the path, we were told to hide our emotions. We were taught to be happy, always. And we were taught that if you weren't happy then it is for some reason your fault. But that's not true. Sometimes life forces you to feel something else. Sometimes tragedy hits. Sometimes you get sad. Sometimes you get angry. It's okay. It's real. It's human.

We need to be more real on social media. We need to learn to be more human. We try so hard to create this fake persona, we try so hard to create this new image of ourselves. But all this does is add pressure onto everybody else who sees your posts, because they try to live up to these ridiculous standards that not even you can live up to. They feel this pressure to be happy, always. And when they fail to be constantly happy, as every human does, they begin to feel that there is something wrong with them. But there is nothing wrong with somebody who has an array of emotions that they are feeling. They are perfectly fine. They are perfectly human.

It is okay. It is okay to be sad. It is okay to upset. It is okay to not be okay. You're only human.

We are carving these fake smiles onto our faces to try to fit in, but we are joking ourselves. We are trying to force these emotions that we think are real, but they aren't. It isn't healthy to be happy all of the time. You need to experience all of these emotions, that's why we were blessed with emotions. Having different emotions is what makes us human. We are meant to experience them all. Happiness, sadness, excitement, stress, anger, love. We are meant to know them all.
