For Souls Like Mine traverses the beauty and the ugliness of love and youth and happiness. It is a roller coaster of emotions--one that leaves you laughing and crying and reaching for a bag to vomit. Sorry, maybe I should have painted a prettier picture. A picture with unicorns and rainbows and butterflies and green grass, but that picture would not accurately describe the content inside this book.

Through poetry and prose, I grapple with the current state of America: the devastation of COVID-19, the outcry of the Black Lives Matter movement, the inhumanities of the Trump administration, the abandonment of God in America, the fear mongering of 24-hour news cycles, and so much more. In a nation on the brink of the Second Civil War, I scream into the void in the only way I know how: with written word.

Pretending to Try to Be Okay
In this collection, I dive even deeper into the darkest sides of my mind. I explore my suicidal thoughts and overwhelming desires to meet death. Attempting to make sense of my demons, I write to loved ones, myself, and those who battle with similar thoughts. I dive into the many different sides of myself, into my biggest insecurities and fears, into my past struggles, and everywhere in between. I hope to show through this collection that, despite the vibrant colors painted by social media, the world is still a place filled with so many dark places. And that's okay. Emotions are meant to be explored--even the darkest ones.
