Passion Over Everything (P.O.E.)

Who here has a dream? Who here has aspirations and desires and a deep burning for adventure? Well, I think the answer is all of us, or at least most of us. But, sadly, very few us actually quench that thirst.

The sad truth about today is that many of us are taught to take the safe path. We are told to go to college and get the 9-5 job with health benefits and a 401k. And that is not a bad life choice, if it is doing what you actually love to do. It only becomes detrimental when that path takes you to a destination you are not passionate about.

Passion is what drives the human soul. It's what keeps us moving, it's what wakes us up in the morning, and it is what births that overpowering smile that takes over our entire face. Passion is the reason we were put onto this earth.

People are often misinformed about what passion truly is. They think it is something that can be bought or earned. They think it is something that will come to them if they only work hard enough or do enough good deeds. They treat it like a prize at a carnival, if only they can get enough tickets to buy their passion. But they couldn't be further from the truth.

The truth about passion is it is something that you cannot earn and it is something that cannot be taken away from you. You can never lose your passion, it is always there. The feeling of being passionate about something is a feeling, quite like love, that you cannot explain to somebody who has never experienced it. It is the greatest feeling in the world.

When you are doing something that you are truly passionate about, nothing else matters. And I mean nothing. It doesn't matter what house you live in, what car you drive, what food is on your plate, what clothes are on your back, all that matters is you and that passion.

People's passions, much like people's personalities, vary from person to person. Some people are passionate about drawing, some are passionate about programming, so are passionate about building, some are passionate about helping others, some are passionate about stocks and other finance words that I just don't understand. Each person has their own passion, their own reason for occupying the earth.

But for some reason we were tricked. We were duped. We were taught that passions are not a lifestyle, they're a side hobby. They are side projects. They are things you only pursue when you have "free time."

We were told that you can't do what you love, because you won't make enough money. You can't support a family being an artist, you need to get a "real" job. You need to grow up and stop living in your fantasy world, just get a real job.

We were taught to fill our wallets, not our souls.

But I am here to free your mind from their witchcraft. I am here to tell you to follow your dreams. I know it may be scary to take the road less traveled, but I believe it was some famous poet who once said something like, "The path less traveled is way cooler than the dumb, overcrowded path. I'mma take this sweet path that nobody else has ever been on and just do stuff that I'm passionate about. And that has made all the difference." True story....well, partially.

Let's be the generation that dared to do what they loved. Let's be the generation that dared to live a life that they loved. Let's be the generation that makes God say, "Finally, you idiots! This is how I always intended for you guys to live! "- Ginsberger 1:1
