I have sat here staring at my computer screen for the last two hours, trying fiercely to think about a topic to write about today. But no matter how hard I have thought, I have been unable to think of anything. I thought maybe I could just try to force myself to write about something that I am not fully passionate about writing, just so that I could have something to post. But, I don't want to force anything. The best advice that I think I have ever received in my writing career came from my good buddy Joel Adam Russell. He told me that you need to show up everyday ready to write. The most important thing to do is show up. But just because you show up, doesn't meant the inspiration will show up. But the most tragic thing that could happen is if the inspiration did show, but you didn't show up to meet it. And that is something that I have held very dearly to my life. So everyday I set aside time to write. I set time aside in the morning, in the afternoon, and then at night. Many times I am met by an overflow of inspiration for my screenplay, poems, and blogs. But other times I am met by silence. That's just part of life. For me, nothing really hit me to write about tonight. But I thought it was a perfect time to share this little tidbit of advice that I received. Checkout Joel Adam Russell on YouTube. |
