Why Chasing Dreams Is So Important

For the last couple of months I have been living a life that most people would consider "irresponsible," but I firmly believe that if I was to live any other life then that would indeed be irresponsible. The last couple of months I have been living down in LA. I have been sleeping on couches, scrounging for food scraps, and working tremendously hard on my writing. I have been doing odd jobs, like driving for Lyft and taking photos and videos for people who inquire, but besides that my time has been devoted completely to my writing.

Most people would tell you to get a job right out of college, get an apartment, and begin your life as a full grown adult. And, in most people's situations, that is the right call, but for me that just doesn't work.

I believe that following your dreams is the most important thing you can possibly do. And, for me, my dream is to be a writer. I want to go to a movie theatre and see a movie that I wrote come to life. I want to walk through a bookstore and see a book with my name written across it. I want to be the inspiration to an entire generation, like JK Rowling or Quentin Tarantino or Maya Angelou. So, in the last three months I have written my first full-length screenplay; I have sent it out to a couple trusted friends and colleagues for their feedback before moving further in the process. While I wait for their feedback, I have started working on a novel that I have been tossing around in my mind for nearly three years.

This journey is very important for me and my future, and here is why. I either have two options for this writing endeavor. I either succeed and realize that writing is an actual possibility for my future, or I fail and discover that writing was never in God's plan for me. But, either way, I will never have to wonder if I could have made a career out of writing. And if it turns out that I was never meant to write, then I will be able to move on with my life and won't have to regret never pursing my dream. Because I decided to hold off on getting a job and decided to instead chase after my crazy, crazy dream, I will never have to wonder if I could have made it. I will always know.

And that is why chasing your dreams is the most important thing that you can ever do in your life. So whatever you dream may be, go out out and chase it. You may succeed, you may fail, but you will never wonder.
