Love Over Money

My entire life I have heard the question, "If money wasn't an issue, what would you do with your life?" And people, more often than not,  will respond with something completely different than what they are actually doing, and I can't help but be heartbroken.

People may call me immature, naive, ignorant, or just flat out stupid for saying what I am about to say, but I believe it is 100% true. Money should NEVER be a factor in what you do with your life. I would rather be eating top ramen for every meal in a small studio apartment doing everything that makes me happy than be making millions doing something that I love. Love over money.

But what about your family? Well, in my opinion, if you are not doing what you love, then you are doing everybody in your family a disservice. If you are doing something that makes you miserable, then you are not helping to better your family. Rather you are hurting them. If you are not happy at your job, then it is going to carry over with you when you are at home. So your wife/husband and kids will have to deal with an unhappy you. Sure, they will have a big house, nice cars, and expensive toys, but they will have a miserable dad/mom or husband/wife. From experience I can tell you that I would rather have a happy parent in a shitty house than a miserable parent in a big house. But, for some reason, society tells us that the big toys are the most important thing to determine if you are a good parent. Now that's what I call immature, naive, ignorant, and just flat out stupid.

I know that following your dreams is a scary thing, it is terrifying. In fact, if your dreams don't scare you then they are not big enough. Chances are you will not make a lot of money doing what you love, at least at the beginning, but that is not an excuse to not do it. As you perfect your craft, the money will come. It always comes. If are able to display your love for doing what you are doing, then people will support you. It may take years and years and years, but the supporters will come. The money will come. The security will come. But you know what you will never have to wait for? Happiness and love. And isn't that the most important thing in this short thing that we call life? When you are lying on your deathbed what will you regret? What will you cherish? Those are the moments that we need to focus on. Limit the regrets in life, increase the number of cherished moments. Because, when it's all said and done, that is all that truly matters.
