So many times I hear people complain about a lack of time in life. They say they don't have time for the simple things anymore. They don't have time to read. They don't have time to write. They don't have time to go to the beach or lie by the pool.
Yet, we find the time to stare mindlessly at our phone or computer screens.
An article written by New York Times claims that adults spend nearly 8.5 hours a day looking at screens. Which I found absurd, so I dig additional digging and found a nice break down from BGR, "In the United States, people spend an average of 444 minutes every day looking at screens, or 7.4 hours. That breaks down to 147 minutes spent watching TV, 103 minutes in front of a computer, 151 minutes on a smartphone and 43 minutes with a tablet."
That is absolutely crazy!
Now, of course, not everybody spends 7.4 hours staring at screens, but even if we cut that in half to 3.7 hours that is still an insane amount of time staring at a screen.
If you feel that you don't have time to do things in life, then maybe it is time to set down your phone.
Instead of watching another episode on Netflix, maybe read a chapter from a new book. Instead of reading that BuzzFeed article, maybe go for a short run. Instead of scrolling for hours through your Facebook feed, you can start working on that book you always wanted to write. Or you can go for a nice hike. Or lie by the pool. Or go for a car ride.
The point is, there is a lot of beautiful world out there beyond the screen you are currently staring at.
There is so much life to live.
Live it before it passes you by.
