Last night tragedy hit my hometown and my old high school. A young man, with so much future ahead of him, decided to take his own life.
It saddens me that this kid felt so trapped in his situation that he felt that suicide was the only answer. And it saddens me that this isn't even close to the first time that I have heard of somebody committing suicide in my hometown or anywhere else in the world.
It has become all too common.
I know that the cliche "It gets better" gets tossed around so often, but you want to know why it does? It's because it is so damn true.
I am saying this from personal experience. There have been times in my life where I have felt completely useless and worthless and helpless. The feeling is numbing. It makes it hard to get out of bed. You lie there and wonder constantly, "What is the point? What is my purpose in this life? Is there any meaning at all? Will I ever be loved? Will I ever be happy again?"
These thoughts flood your mind until they are all that you hear. They are so loud and so deafening. But I am here to tell you that it does get better.
Being somebody who has suffered mind crippling thoughts of being stuck in a situation with no exit in sight, I have made a little list of things that helped me and could possibly help you deal with the situation in a life saving manner.
I know that these battles happen in different intensities and that I may be talking to somebody that is fighting at a different stage than I am battling. So for people who are at the point where they have tried this all and feel that suicide is the only answer, please call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1 (800) 273-8255. And if you know anybody that you fear may be contemplating suicide please call the hotline, as well. Do not wait.
I want to leave you all with this. Life is a beautiful thing. It is filled with ups and downs. It is filled with birth and death. It is filled love and hate. There will be days where you can't stop smiling and days where you can't stop crying. But, just know, it does get better. It will get better. I love you all and I hope you all have a great day. Stay blessed.
